When I grow up.
For a while now, I've known I want to be a mom. A dedicated, loving, cool mom. I want to take care of my kids every single day and give them my full attention. Of course, I have planned to have a career before I settle down, get married, and have kids. When I was little, up until fourth grade, I wanted to be a teacher. I loved school. I loved doing my homework and having a binder. Sometimes at home, I would play school with my sisters. I was always the teacher. I would give them gold stars and print out math worksheets from the computer. I would usually do them for them because I thought it was fun and they never wanted to do math. I also started a career of event planning at a very young age. I loved going to Party City and my house was considered a "party house", so I was given the job of planning everything. No doubt, I volunteered. I loved to do it. making lists, shopping, decorating. There was nothing in the world that fit me better and I really enjoyed spending my mom's money. I think after the teacher phase, I immediately decided I was going to be an event planner. I could specialize in weddings. I've been dreaming of my own wedding for so long. I think that what made me really fall in love with the idea was the movie, "The Wedding Planner". God, I LOVED that movie. I saw my future self when Jennifer Lopez played the character. It couldn't have been a better fit for me. I still would love to be an event planner right out of college, but I have been expanding my horizons lately. I have a broad range of talents and I think I could excel in a lot of fields. I love playing softball and I am very good at forming my own opinions and philosophy is something I'm very interested in. I have a fascination in Marine Biology. My mom is a lawyer and I'm very good at arguing. I love traveling and I'm very friendly so I think I could make a great plane stewardess. I love space and the stars. When I was little, I looked at the planets and stars through a huge telescope that was on my balcony. Astronomy has always been really special to me. I love to write. I could easily be a yoga instructor. I enjoy Pilates. I did Junior Lifeguards and I love the ocean. During the summer, I'm working on my lifeguard training so I can lifeguard at camps and other recreation during high school. I have a lot of options and I can't wait to find a career perfect for me. Working is fun, but I plan to retire early and focus on my kids. That's my real dream.

ENTPs are sensitive to possibilities and show unquenchable interest in almost everything they try. They are non-conformist and innovative. 5% of the total population. ENTP's value their ability to use imagination and innovation to deal with problems. Trusting in their ingenuity to get them out of trouble, they often neglect to prepare sufficiently for any given situation. This characteristic, combined with their tendency to underestimate the time needed to complete a project, may cause the ENTP to become over-extended, and to work frequently beyond expected time limits. Complicating this situation is their predisposition to experiment with new solutions. This makes them eager to move on to the next challenge when things get boring. ENTP's become stressed when their improvisational abilities are ineffective and they will avoid circumstances where they might fail.
If stress continues, ENTP's become distracted and their "can do" attitude is threatened. Feelings of incompetence, ineptness, and inadequacy take over. They need to escape situations that are associated with anxiety is more prominent for the ENTP than for any other personality type. Doubtful of whether they will have what it takes to accomplish a task, they displace their fears onto situations they can elude. Panic, fear, and anxiety then block the expression of their creativity. Defensive phobic reactions cause the ENTP to circumvent achievement in other areas and prevent the success they strive on.

MARINE BIOLOGY????????
My final choices are a wedding planner and marine biologist. I have looked further into these careers and they are both very interesting to me and fit me very well. I love working in the ocean. And, I love parties and planning. I think it depends which way life takes me. If I move into the city to find an internship, I think it'd be more convenient for an office job as the head of my own company in the wedding business. I like to see people happy and it would be a childhood dream come true. If I stayed in San Diego after college and come back to the ocean where my heart belongs, I'd absolutely love working with animals and being a scientist, writing papers, researching in a lab. That would be awesome. Also, I've been looking into the average salaries of these career choices, and marine biologist get paid better. But I also think that would require more school. I've also been looking into the education required for each job, but I couldn't find a definitive answer for all of my questions. I'm very excited for my future and I think I'd be happy either way. But if it really came down to just one, I think I would have to be a marine biologist because that is such an amazing opportunity and it pays better. Money is a very important aspect of planning your future, and I'd like to be able to help support my family before I become a full-time mom.
Career Description
I have been looking into the career of a Marine Biologist. Zoologists and wildlife biologists study animals and other wildlife and how they interact with their ecosystems. They study the physical characteristics of animals, animal behaviors, and the impacts humans have on wildlife and natural habitats. They work in offices, laboratories, and outdoors. Depending on their job and interests, they may spend considerable time in the field gathering data and studying animals in their natural habitats. The education required for this career is a bachelor's degree. Many schools offer bachelor’s degree programs in zoology and wildlife biology or in a closely related field, such as ecology. The work schedule could be difficult, it might require long trips and months at sea with minimal interaction with other people. It is closely studying everyday and publishing your findings. An average day at my job might consist of working on computers, analyzing data, and writing research reports. Not to mention, working in the water! Which is probably why I'm looking into this profession because that's all I really want to do. My estimated salary is $64,300.
Fieldwork can require zoologists and wildlife biologists to travel to remote locations anywhere in the world. For example, marine biologists may spend months at sea on a research ship. The ability to travel and study nature firsthand is often viewed as a benefit of working in these occupations. Fieldwork can be physically demanding, and zoologists and wildlife biologists work in both warm and cold climates and in all types of weather. For example, marine biologists may need to spend significant amounts of time in cold water and on ships, which may cause seasickness. In all environments, working as a zoologist or wildlife biologist can be emotionally demanding because interpersonal contact may be limited. Work schedules: Most zoologists and wildlife biologists work full time. They may work long or irregular hours, especially when doing fieldwork. Zoologists and wildlife biologists who work with nocturnal animals may need to work at night at least some of the time. Many zoology and wildlife biology students gain practical experience through internships, volunteer work, or some other type of employment during college or soon after graduation.
The industries that employed the most zoologists and wildlife biologists were as follows:
State government, excluding education and hospitals 33%
Federal government, excluding postal service 21%
Management, scientific, and technical consulting services 10%
Research and development in the physical, engineering, and life sciences 8%
Colleges, universities, and professional schools; state 7%
Daily duties:
Zoologists and wildlife biologists use geographic information systems (GIS), modeling software, and other computer programs to estimate wildlife populations and track the movements of animals. They also use these computer programs to forecast the spread of invasive species or diseases, project changes in the availability of habitat, and assess other potential threats to wildlife.
Zoologists and wildlife biologists conduct research for a variety of purposes. For example, many zoologists and wildlife biologists work to increase our knowledge and understanding of wildlife species. Traditionally, many wildlife biologists researched ways to encourage abundant game animal populations in order to increase recreational hunting and tourism. Today, many also work with public officials in conservation efforts that protect species from threats and help animal populations return to and remain at sustainable levels.
Education
Zoologists and wildlife biologists need at least a bachelor’s degree. Many schools offer bachelor’s degree programs in zoology and wildlife biology or in a closely related field, such as ecology. An undergraduate degree in biology with coursework in zoology and wildlife biology also is good preparation for a career as a zoologist or wildlife biologist.
Zoologists and wildlife biologists typically need at least a master’s degree for higher level investigative or scientific work. A Ph.D. is necessary for the majority of independent research positions and for university research positions. Most Ph.D.-level researchers need to be familiar with computer programming and statistical software.
Students typically take zoology and wildlife biology courses in ecology, anatomy, wildlife management, and cellular biology. They also take courses that focus on a particular group of animals, such as herpetology (reptiles and amphibians) or ornithology (birds). Courses in botany, chemistry, and physics are important because zoologists and wildlife biologists must have a well-rounded scientific background. Wildlife biology programs may focus on applied techniques in habitat analysis and conservation. Students also should take courses in mathematics and statistics, given that zoologists and wildlife biologists must be able to do complex data analysis.
Knowledge of computer science is important because zoologists and wildlife biologists frequently use advanced computer software, such as geographic information systems (GIS) and modeling software, to do their work.
Important Qualities
Communication skills. Zoologists and wildlife biologists write scientific papers and give talks to the public, policymakers, and academics.
Critical-thinking skills. Zoologists and wildlife biologists need sound reasoning and judgment to draw conclusions from experimental results and scientific observations.
Emotional stamina and stability. Zoologists and wildlife biologists may need to endure long periods with little human contact. As with other occupations that deal with animals, emotional stability is important in working with injured or sick animals.
Interpersonal skills. Zoologists and wildlife biologists typically work on teams. They must be able to work effectively with others to achieve their goals or to negotiate conflicting goals.
Observation skills. Zoologists and wildlife biologists must be able to notice slight changes in an animal’s characteristics, such as changes in its behavior or appearance.
Outdoor skills. Zoologists and wildlife biologists may need to chop firewood, swim in cold water, navigate rough terrain in poor weather, or perform other activities associated with life in remote areas.
Problem-solving skills. Zoologists and wildlife biologists try to find the best possible solutions to threats that affect wildlife, such as disease and habitat loss.
How to Become a Zoologist or Wildlife Biologist
Zoologists and wildlife biologists need a bachelor’s degree for entry-level positions; a master’s degree is often needed for higher level investigative or scientific work. A Ph.D. is necessary to lead independent research and for most university research positions.

Internship Day
Internship Interview
1. What does an average day at your job consist of?
Feeding the animals, surgeries, rescue missions. If you are on-call, you could be called in the middle of the night for an emergency situation to pick-up a stranded animal(but, that is very unlikely because no one would usually be on the beach at that time to report the animal to a SeaWorld employee)
2. What is your favorite part about your job?
There are lots of opportunities to travel. Funding conservation, grants, Research v.s. Rehabilitation. The SeaWorld Conservation Fund. When you move up in the zoological department, you will get more research opportunities in other places, opportunities to travel to do more research.
3. If you are comfortable answering, how much is your yearly salary?
Depending on what position you hold, for entry-level jobs, park operation(culinary, retail, high school jobs-minimum age is 16) you make a little more than minimum wage.
Associate animal care specialist- $15.47 an hour
Animal care specialist- $17.66 an hour
Senior animal care specialist- with Ph.D., doctorate, maybe a professor at a college, multiple grants and lots of fund for research
4. What previous job experience did you have before getting this job?
Some good opportunities before you get hired: stable/big animal experience, scuba certification, interaction with lots of people, *listening and following directions*, Navy Marine Mammal Internship
5. Where did you grow up?
A lot of people moved here because of the weather and opportunities. Or they grew up here and chose to stay. Hiring internally. If you worked here during high school, you can get a career here after college or during break when you come home from college..
6. Where did you go to college?
This really wasn't a key part in getting this job(more information in next question).
7. Do you have your degree? What is your degree?
You can start with any degree(for example: biology, theatre, dance, phycology). Your degree isn't really what matters about the job. You will learn and get the experience during the job training. Although, lots of the trainers have degrees in phycology to help them interact with the animals. I heard a lot about biology and phycology.
8. How did you know that this is what you wanted to do? Why did you want to become a Marine Biologist? (go into Marine Biology?)
When you fall in love with the ocean, you like being around people, you are friendly, these are also good character traits for this job. If you show this during your interview, those are qualities they will look for and potentially hire you for.
9. Honestly, do you like your job? Are you happy with your life and/or career?
It’s easy to be happy working at SeaWorld. You can go outside and meet new people, the atmosphere is happy and fun. The work here is rewarding.
10. When did you decide on your career choice?
After already having a career in professional dancing, looking for another job as she got older, a friend offered the job and she has been happy ever since. A second career(when you get older or want to find a new passion or rekindle an old passion)
11. How long have you been working here?
Head of Education department: starting 2 years park operations, then getting promotion after promotion until getting to the top
12. Where did you work before this?
PARK OPERATIONS! Hiring from within. This is a great starter job and you will have a job with them forever. During high school, back home for break form college, after college when you come back with your degree. A great company with excellent values.

Internship Reflection
I went to SeaWorld to learn about marine biologists and animal conservation. I met with people from Human Resources(HR), marine biologists that are members of the Rescue team, veterinarians performing surgery on a 300 pound male sea lion, and the head of education staff that have acquired the knowledge necessary by being in the field for 20 years. I first met with the rescue team and saw all of the seals and sea lions that were being monitored. One malnourished seal in particular had the most beautiful cloudy blue eyes. It turned out, he had been blind. This could have been due to the chemical;s and oils in the ocean, or a fisherman shooting him in the head for stealing his fish which could have ruined his eyesight because it was connected to a part of his brain. They were using his stem cells to turn into eye drops to reverse his blindness. This new science was absolutely fascinating to me. I then watched a surgery on a sea lion that had been rescued the day before, watching through floor to ceiling windows looking into the OR(operating room). The surgery suites look exactly like the one from Grey's Anatomy, I honestly can't tell the difference. They use the same equipment on animals as humans. I then got to have lunch with my mom's friend that works in HR there. After that, we got to walk around the park and we found lots of things to do. I got to touch sharks, fish, crabs, and stingrays! One of the coolest things I did was stick my hands into a pool full of "doctor fish" that are used for spa treatments in Japan. They eat the dead skin off of your hands, it tickles and is just so much fun! I saw one of the most beautiful things in my life while looking around the touching pools and exhibits. The sea turtle exhibit was by far the most beautiful thing I saw during my internship. Since I was a little girl, sea turtles have been my favorite animal, it was amazing to see so many in one place. The only other time I've got to encounter my most favorite species on this Earth is when I take vacation in Hawaii. But I've never gotten to be this close to them due to the wild conservation laws dedicated to the endangered species. The exhibit was so peaceful and harmonized. I loved it! I asked about how I could make contact with the turtles and what job I would need to be able to interact with them. I know that I could clean the tanks and help rescue them and they mentioned a really important qualification for that type of job would be your scuba certification.
SeaWorld does not take any animals from the ocean and keep them at the park unless they would not be able to survive on their own in the wild. All of the animals were bread at the SeaWorld unless they were saved and unable to be released back into the wild. SeaWorld has to get permission from NOAA Fisheries organization to keep any animal at the park. Usually when they save a stranded animal on the beach, the rehabilitation will be about 6-8 weeks of a stay at SeaWorld. Then, they are released back out into the wild. For example, they only have 2 permanent Sea Lions at the park because they were unable to survive in the wild on their own. There programs are affirmed by many federal and state laws like the Marine Mammal Protection Act, Animal Welfare Act, Endangered Species Act and other statutes. In a normal year at SeaWorld, 100-200 animals are saved. But during 2015, 1,000 animals were saved! Usually, there are 200-300 animals on site during saving season. I learned so much about animal care and animal rescue, those are the departments that I have decided I want to become a part of.
After the sea turtle exhibit, I got the opportunity to swim with the dolphins at the Dolphin Encounter. I have been fortunate enough to swim with dolphins before on another vacation in Mexico. I loved the opportunity and these beautiful creatures are so sweet and kind. That is one of the most rewarding things I have ever had the opportunity to experience. I am very grateful for everything I have gotten to do at SeaWorld. After the amazing experience with the dolphins, I sat down with the HR team that hires all of the people that work at SeaWorld and talked about the requirements you need to have to get a job there. This was the most important part about my experience. i learned what I need to do to prepare for this. We talked about what is good to have on a resume, what type of interview they conduct and what qualities they are looking for. I learned that they did group interviews and did an exercise with a group of applicants of 8 to 10. They are looking for your people skills, that's why they have you apply with other people. They look for friendliness and performance skills. Listening and following directions is also very important if you plan to be around the animals and have important tasks and duties to take proper care of them. You have to demonstrate responsibility.
I was surprised by how much rehabilitation SeaWorld does. I never knew much about their plans or values, but after meeting the staff, I am so amazed by what they are doing to improve the marine ecosystem.
I am planning to have a career at SeaWorld. Their values are in line with my own and they are doing great work. I am so grateful that I had the opportunity to see behind the scenes of SeaWorld to actually understand what their mission is. I am so excited for my career there and can't wait to begin it in a few years!
