Wonderings about Space:
I think that most of my amazement and interest about space is shown in the movie Interstellar. That movie fricks my mind up man! It is just crazy. I love that movie with all of my mind, it is such an intellectual movie and watching it is like an out-of-body experience. It starts to make nothing make sense and it makes you believe that you and nothing that matters to you is significant even in the slightest. Which I guess is true, but in our own minds and lives it doesn't seem like that. That's why it is so hard to understanding and takes such a toll on our minds or my mind when I watch that movie because it changes my whole perspective and makes my whole life be separate from the world's life, it just isn't natural. It is crazy to think your mind can exclude you and your presence from the world to explain science. Anyway, I really like to just think about this stuff and talk about this stuff even though when I try to talk about this stuff I end up not really talking but just babbling and nothing makes sense but my mind is just turing and churning and thinking about a million things. It is just insane! But if you want to see me do more of this stuff where I am just blurbing about random things that make my mind work hard and search, I suggest you look at my Physics blog from semester 2 of last year.
Personal Introduction
My name is Eva Heinrichs. I had an amazing summer and I am grateful for all the experiences I had and all the opportunities I got over the break. I went on tour with The Dead following them around the United States. I went to Las Vegas(the first show of the whole summer tour), Los Angeles-Hollywood Bowl when there was a bomb threat, Shoreline amphitheater in Palo Alto, California near San Fransisco and San Jose where one of my very best friend's lives(two nights at Shoreline and both were amazing!), and then two shows in Boulder, Colorado which turned out to be a really cool place because we stayed there for about a week and the shows were at Folsom Field which is a football stadium which wasn't really ideal, I would have preferred Red Rocks and I even went to tour the amphitheater on my trip there, but they needed a larger and another outdoor venue for the show(for obvious reasons), we also helped out a few hitchhikers at the Denver airport and drove them in our rental car to Boulder which was a pretty cool way to meet new friends and we later saw them at the shows, and straight from Denver we flew to Boston. This was my first time visiting Boston and it was amazing there! I had a really fun time and saw some amazing things. I also visited some colleges there with my older sister who is now a senior, it was cool to visit Harvard, one of the most prestigious colleges in America. I saw two Dead shows at Fenway Park which is an amazing thing to be able to say. Like my seats were on a famous baseball field and I was dancing on top of the dirt that famous baseball players practice and play on and not to mention, I was at these shows with Bill FRICKEN Walton. All in all, I'd say I had an amazing summer filled with music and family. Oh yeah, I also vacationed in Key West and some of the other Key's with my distant family that I haven't seen in eight years! I was able to reconnect with my aunt's and uncles and cousins and my nana and Pop, it was a great family vacation and I did some amazing things down there like go parasailing over the ocean and feed sharks and visit the Hemingway house! I also snorkeled in the most beautiful deep waters where a statue of Jesus has been resting underwater for years! The water was even more clear than Hawaii in some parts! I miss Hawaii so much, I used to go there in the summer with my family and my friends family and we would just hang out in the condo and swim with amazing fish and just be all back together again. I guess I just really miss them. Anyway, I think the point I am trying to make is that I am very grateful for traveling and very grateful to have the opportunity to explore the world and see new things and have experiences that not many other kids get to have. This summer gave me great opportunities to do all of that and I sure took advantage of it. I had a great time and I'm just so happy and fortunate to have parents who can take me to places. I love them a lot. Well, that was just a snippet of my summer and maybe I'll do another free-write sometime about some of my other summer experiences.

Most Like an Arch This Marriage
BY JOHN CIARDI
Most like an arch—an entrance which upholds
and shores the stone-crush up the air like lace.
Mass made idea, and idea held in place.
A lock in time. Inside half-heaven unfolds.
Most like an arch—two weaknesses that lean
into a strength. Two fallings become firm.
Two joined abeyances become a term
naming the fact that teaches fact to mean.
Not quite that? Not much less. World as it is,
what’s strong and separate falters. All I do
at piling stone on stone apart from you
is roofless around nothing. Till we kiss
I am no more than upright and unset.
It is by falling in and in we make
the all-bearing point, for one another’s sake,
in faultless failing, raised by our own weight.
I like this poem because it is about love and it goes much further than two people in love. It talks about the struggle of a relationship and marriage. I think it uses good metaphors and similes to describes the intense controversy and relationship. This poem makes me feel conflicted, conflicted about the faults of marriage and why people get married in the first place. It seems like "love" is a hard thing, when the natural presumption should be that love is easy.I don't think that I relate to this poem very well but my parents did get divorced and I think this poem edges on that when it talks about the unease of the relationship and all relationships.

Reflection:
I enjoyed doing this short project. It was a good way to get to know my new classmates for the year. Our team worked together to get all of the materials and put the product together. I think that we could have spent a little bit more quality time on the planning process, but I don't think anyone in the class really knew the requirements or really knew what was going on. It was more of a relaxed drawing and I think that a lot of other people on the team had the same experience at the beginning. Also, am really proud of my team for coming together in the end, especially on Friday(well mostly just me and two other people) to finish our telescope. I think that most of class was looking for the direction in where to go because I don't think that anybody was very successful cutting the pipe for themselves and trying to fathom how we were supposed to put it together. But it was really great of the teachers to bring in the extra materials that most of the groups needed to lead them in the right direction of finishing their telescopes on time. |
Week 2
Laser Micoscopes
Reflection:
This was a really fun mini project! It was a lot of fun to collaborate with a new group and discover and research something totally rad and new. I know that a lot of groups just used their work time to finish blog posts and other stuff which is totally fine and good that they are finishing their work, but I am really glad that I decided to spend my work time in Andrew's class watching the crazy laser projections all over the room. I had the opportunity to watch a huge octopus spider thing inhaling all these other bugs and bacteria on the fricken ceiling! I could have been working on my blog posts, but instead I gave myself an opportunity to learn and wonder so many new things by being in the right place at the right time.
I saw freaky worms and a huge bacteria that must have been alive eating all these other weird things, it looked like seaweed floating around in a dumpy bay!
Question
I wonder what color those things actually are?
Wonderings wanderings
Or is there not even color that small? Does color even exist on that small of a scale? Can colors even be shown? Maybe they're just black, but black isn't even a color, it's a shade or something weird.my name is tessa.

Scales of the Universe
This website reminded me of this video that my teacher showed my class in 8th grade on youtube. It zoomed in on the smallest of the smallest thing in the world and it would multiply the view as it zoomed out and showed larger and larger things, until the screen was filled with all of the space visible that is around us. But we could just keep guessing, and say that there is just more and more outside of that. This is absolutely amazing to me. This is what it is all about. We are not on Earth, we are simply floating around in a huge huge nothing. It is infinity. We don't know where it goes. If it stops. But space doesn't stop, it is space. In the video, there was a counter in the corner it was exponentially multiplying by ten. This video, this idea,. honestly shook me to the core. It just wakes me right up when I think about it. And then I can start asking questions that seem crazy, but can only make sense right now because this idea changes everything. It changes the rules of what matters. Nothing matters when you thing about this. What is matter? What is space?
Future exploration is everywhere. I might just have to become an astronaut because this just interests me so damn much. That doesn't really go along with my life plans, but what the hell am I supposed to do. There is never-ending things to explore. The science is just going to get better and better and there are places to go, infinity places to go. It's not like traveling around the world, and thinking that there is no way that you can travel to all the places in the world because there's just too many, it seems like that is impossible, like that is impossible because there is infinity places to go. When you travel to all these places on this Earth, there will always be another place to go. BUT, if you were immortal and you had the resources to travel everywhere in the world, you could. That's the truth that I know. You could travel to every place on your checklist of places in the world. But, in space, if you were immortal, it wouldn't matter. If you traveled, everywhere, there would always be more places to go. Literally every time that you finish doing something out there, there is a;ways more. That is what literal infinity is. That is what space is. We will never be bored! EVER!
Don't even get me started on time in space, "space time", "space and time". It gets really good and confusing when I talk about that, but oh I love it. I just have so much to say, it is insane!!!!!!!!!! I never run out of stuff to say on this stuff. Everything connects!!!!!
oKAY THIS IS THE stuff that is crazy, literally insane, this is the stuff that gets me excited!

1st Draft Poem
We only know what we are told.
What we read, what we watch, what we hear.
Knowledge
The only thing that proves us
Proves that we are real
Makes us feel real and tells us what to do, how to think
We are lost in the "cosmos", whatever that really means
In reality, just floating around on a huge chunk of rock and Energy orbiting other rocks, with shiny things flying by and a huge fire in the sky providing us with warmth and light, our center

Deep Sky Documentation Plan
I was sick the whole week that we worked on this, so Adam had me do something else instead.

Writing Piece:
On this trip, I learned about setting up tents and how important it is to be in a group with responsible people who will help you set up the tent for the whole group. It is important to choose the people you are going camping with wisely and have friends with good survival skills. I wonder about shooting stars. I saw so many which is so amazing because in movies and just common knowledge is that they are rare and in movies when they see them, it's like so special. I just kept watching them pass and it was so amazing. It sparked interest and wondering. I would love to know more about shooting stars and research about them. I feel like I have so much to learn about space because when you look up, you just don't even know what or how far or how much you are looking at. It's crazy that when we look up at the night sky, we are literally looking at infinity. This photo is of the night skyline including the trees and some kids playing with a laser in the distance and some amazing stars and lights in the sky. I chose this image because space interests me so much. And my favorite part of camping had to be looking up at the beautiful, genius, unknown in the sky. It's crazy to me that during the day, we just see blue. A pretty blue, but it's just blue. And at night, we see all of this crazy freaky amazing beauty. Like that's just so weird! Night just has to be thought of as way more pretty because just look up! This image represents my learning about processing images in photoshop(since it is so well done), and my learning about what is up there. What all those stars are, what they are made of, whats around them, and everything up else that's up there. In the future, I would like to learn more about, well not necessarily learn about, but just expand my thoughts on space. I like to talk about space and write about space and I think that can expand and explain my thoughts and wonderings about space altogether. I will definitely remember in ten years how cool my school was and how I got special opportunities like going out camping in a beautiful place with my whole team! And the fact that we even had teams and amazing teachers like adam and andrew that made those trips happen for us. For my next outing, I would like to focus more on astronomy and have intellectually enriching conversations with people rather than waste my time sleeping. I would also plan to stay more than one day and enjoy my time during the day and be able to look at the sky more than one night. I'm gonna try to plan a trip for more than one night because I'm sure that will be so much more enriching!

Week 4
Acrylic Photo
This picture is of the night sky. It features the skyline, the light leftover from the sun setting, some kids playing with green lasers in the distance, plenty of stars and constellations, and an unknown cluster of lights. I chose this image because it is breath-taking, astronomy is pretty awesome when you can capture it on camera. The night sky is something that will never be explained in my mind. There is just infinity out there. There is no way to explain the universe. It's just forever. I chose this picture because looking up at the sky in a beautiful meadow and being so encased into nature, just has got to be my favorite part of it all, of life. I don't know how that can't be anyones favorite part of camping. We were in one of the most, in my mind, beautiful places on this Earth. I loved it. We were surrounded by trees, literally. They covered us and blockaded us into this field of absolute beauty and the trees became the skyline. I processed this image in photoshop using the color-editing tools on the right side of the photoshop page. I tinted the image a little bit aqua and adjusted the brightness. I mostly just played with random tools that I didn't really know what they were. I just tried to make the stars stand out and make then bright.
Cell Phone Microscope
Group Vision:
We planned to take micro images of flowers and plants. We thought it would be really cool to take videos of ants interacting in a controlled environment or like do special experiments and make observations. It didn't really work out exactly as planned, so we just took a very close-up video of the ants crawling on the tree and it still turned out really cool!
Our design was just to take the lens out of the mini laser and put it into a bobby pin to hold it in place. We then taped our contraption to our phone and started testing it out. We had to put the phone very very close to things to get the image, like almost touching or sometimes actually touching the subject. Because we had to get the phone so close, ants were crawling all over my phone and my hands it was just so nasty! The videos are kind of gross.
It was really cool to look at the ants so close. I totally understand this project now and I am so excited. It is amazing how we are able to look at these tiny living creatures through microscopes and they take up our whole 6 inch phone screen. And to think that days earlier, we were taking professional images of nebulas and galaxies bigger than this Earth. This project is about perspective and I think I could make a really cool film about this experience and I am just so excited to get started on this. It feels like I have already learned so much, I'm just so excited. I think my final products are going to be so amazing.

Week 5
What is light?
We don't see light, we see with light. This makes me wonder if light is even real, if it exists. Scientists say it is both a particle and a wave, so I can touch light? It makes sense that it can be a wave somehow, but we can see it, so this is where it gets a little bit confusing. It wasn't explained how it is actually both a particle and a wave but that is the only way for us to make sense out of it. I thought that it was so interesting that colors aren't real. Now this I can make some sense of. I think that if I was a scientist, my whole world would change. I would love to look at everything in life in a scientific manner. I see philosophy, I see meaning. But I don't see facts, I don't see the science or an equation that makes that reality true.

Weekly Planner Reflection
Weekly Planner
This week we weren't really working on our project, it was more of an individual work week. I really needed to work on my blog everyday and I just kept putting it back everyday and goofing off. I wasn't really getting work done during work time this week. I did really enjoy making e-matches and doing explosions, that was fun and I did some learning. But on Friday, I really got my shit together and hella busted out work on my blog. Next week, I want to get ahead on my blog work and get a good start to the week by at least starting my blog post so that I don't have to stress at the end of the week.
Week 6
Science Writing
First draft:
This photo is a lucky capture of a miniature explosion. It is difficult to capture this with the camera equipment we had available yesterday. The easiest way to capture this is by taking a video with a high-speed imaging camera and then slow down the frame rate and grabbing a photo from it. We just held down the shutter button to take multiple pictures on continuous shooting mode with a high shutter speed. We had to try a couple of times to take the photo, that means making multiple explosions, because it is very difficult to get just the right moment of explosion. We took plenty of photos of the very ending of the explosion of leftover smoke and light but the printed photo is by far the best representation of what we saw with our eyes.
To make this reaction happen, we created, made our own hydrogen. Which is pretty awesome! We put concentrated citric acid(which is found in fruits and is the sour stuff on candies like Sour patch kids and Extreme ropes) in a glass science tube(like a funnel shaped glassware you would find in a mad-scientist lab) with small strips of magnesium. We funneled all of this down the tube into the glass and added water. We immediately put a balloon over the top of the beaker, and it started filling with gas, the balloon was growing and growing. The air that was inside of the balloon was hydrogen, it filled with lots of hydrogen atoms that were being emitted from the chemical reaction of magnesium and citric acid. These ingredients, mixed with water, create hydrogen. When we lit the balloon on fire, the hydrogen atoms expanded and lit on fire, that’s what created the small explosion and flash of light, fire.

I'm super happy that I finished my History Presentation and very proud that I was able to present this week. I am proud of our presentation and I enjoyed preparing for it and collaborating with my partner, Chloe. I know that I also messed around this week which seems like a continuing pattern and honestly I feel like I am still okay even though I mess around some(maybe a lot) at school. It doesn't really affect me. I'm able to still get work done. I don't see myself trying to make an effort to stop messing around or being mindful of my goofing off in class. But for example, right now I sat down at a computer and I have gotten a lot of work done and it makes me feel more at ease. I know that when I have been goofing off for a while, and a lot of things start piling up I start to get very stressed. This probably isn't the best way for me to do things, but honestly I don't think I have a motivation to change or stop. I'm looking forward to really working hard on my blog next week. I don't want to have to get tense about the big accumulative pile of work that is waiting for me because I have been messing around before I actually sit down and do it.
Week 7
Weekly Planner Reflection:
This week was a very short week with two half days and Friday off! Because of that and because I was excited for the long weekend, I did not get much work done and it felt like almost none at all. I don't think that I had a very productive week but I am really looking forward to being much more focused and productive next week! The blog post for the week should be assigned at the beginning of the week. It is not fair to give the outline of what is due on the day it's due. I should have the whole week to work on it. It's really frustrating to feel like you are finished with your blog post and then have to add more to it. I'd like to know everything that needs to be on it when it is assigned.

Week 8
Genocide Blog Post
I researched "The Great Leap Forward" which was a economic and social campaign that turned into a genocide that took place in 1958-1961 in China. The Communist Party of China made an attempt to modernize China's economy so that by 1988, China's economy would rival America. Mao Zedong is considered to be the father of Communist China. His aim and major gaol was to transform China's economy from an agrarian economy into a socialist society. An agrarian economy is a society ion which the economy relies on agriculture and farmland. Growing crops and cultivating the land is the primary source of wealth. These societies stress the importance of agriculture and farming, which sounds a lot like old rural China. Zedong did this through rapid industrialization and collectivization. Although, it is unanimously thought that this caused the Great Chinese Famine. "Coercion, terror, and systematic violence were the foundation of the Great Leap Forward" and it "motivated one of the most deadly mass killings of human history". The Chinese government created communes and forced intensive labor, they collected and controlled the people into being workers. The failing of this plan to round up all of the people and force them into work effected China's agriculture very seriously. This, along with a series of natural disasters over three years caused China to fall into a state of emergency and it turned quickly into a National disaster. It is said that about 20 million peopled died of starvation during this time.
I had never heard of this time period in history and what happened in China. I never even heard of "The Great Leap Forward". I knew that there had been controversy n China for many years and I never had much interest in going there, it kind of scared me. The movie Mulan showed me most of what I knew about China growing up and the gender inequality always made me dismiss China. I never heard of this, so maybe other people are unaware of this history. It does not seem like common knowledge to me. But I must say, I have not had the most traditional education. The effects of communism and greed, clearly is shown in this mass murder, the outcome is deaths. I wonder how this effects China today? Is this something that they talk about a lot? What was America's role in this? And, what is China like now after experiencing this? How has the family dynamic changed? Does anybody have any ancestors? This is just so weird. And also so weird that I didn't even know about it.

Science:
Our eyes are like camera’s and how they capture pictures. They actually designed cameras using the mechanisms of the human eye. When there is a lot of light being shown, our pupils dilate. The same rule follows for capturing a photo, when there is a lot of light being captured, the lens opening will be very small. I’ve learned about this and the mechanisms for the past year and a half because every project that I’ve done at High Tech High has revolved around photos, film and picture. Our iris is used to control the amount of visible light that passes through the lens to the retina and our pupil is where that light enters our eyes. Our iris does this by regulating the size of our pupil. The color in our eyes is due to variations in a pigment found in the front part of the iris, called melanin. This pigment has varying degrees in all of us. A lack of this pigment results in blue eyes, some pigment results in green eyes, and a lot of pigment demonstrates brown eyes. When our pupils dilate and the sizing changes, the pigments in the iris compress or spread apart, this changes the eye color a bit. This is why we notice our eye color changing. Certain emotions can also change the iris color. This is why people claim that their eyes change colors when they are angry or passionate. Eye color can also change with age.

Go to bed thinking, that your path will be shown to you, the light at the end of the tunnel holds some sort of great future for you
But,

We choose our own path, we are the only ones here, in reality, that can see what is here for us.

The world gives us these resources, but we choose the way we use them. WE decide what is right and what is wrong, and ultimately, we will choose the future for this Earth, we use it the way we want to. Hopefully, obviously, we want to treat it with respect, but we don’t always keep her in mind when we make certain decisions. But she is our home, our number one priority, besides, selfishly, ourselves. I think my main goal, my missionary statement if you will, is to put the Earth before myself. And, to help others learn to do that as well.

I felt pretty accomplished this week. I am proud that I caught up on all my work. I just have one more thing to do, the make an element reading. Also, I haven't worked on my week 8 blog yet because I have been doing other stuff. But I finished a lot of my photo stuff and have printed and acrylic-backed photos with my group which is good. I still need to do the genocide blog post and then finish the writing pieces for the photos and then post them on my blog for this week. I am confused about this solar writing. I understand the reading part and I already read that article but there is some writing piece that is a part of it and I don't think anybody knows what to do about that. I felt like all in all, I got more work done this week that I messed around which is always a win for me at this school.

Oobleck blog post
States of Matter
Oobleck is neither a solid, or a liquid. How does this substance hover between both of these states of matter? We know that we can transform states of matter from and into each other. Like, from solid to a liquid by adding heat, and from a liquid into a gas by heating it further, and from a gas back into a solid. Just like how we can turn ice into water and water into gas. I do wonder how snow fits into this. I know that I have learned about this before and I'm sure I asked just the same question before. I think snow falls between a liquid and a solid. Maybe this is the same position that oobleck holds. Ooobleck is only a mix of cornstarch and water. This has to be simple. We need to know what is in cornstarch, thats the main ingredient, that must be what is causing this odd reaction. We know that there are three states of matter, solids, liquids, and gases. This has been taught to us since the second grade. But weird things like oobleck and snow, make us ask questions like these. I guess oobleck is a liquid. No, actually, it must be an experiment that is constantly floating between a solid and a liquid. It can only be one at a time. And, when you touch it, it is a solid. But when it is in rest, it is a liquid. That's freaky!

Phase Changes:
solid to liquid= melting
liquid to solid= freezing
liquid to gas= evaporation
gas to liquid= condensation
solid to gas= sublimation
gas to solid= deposition
Everything I just explained is shown on the phase change diagram. The phase change diagram shows how one phase of matter can transform change into another. It also shows how temperature affects a phase of matter and how pressure can affect another phase of matter.
The phase change diagram shows that solids and liquids have higher pressures which means those phases or more dense than gas.
When a solid gets hotter, it turns into a liquid. When a liquid gets colder, it turns into a solid.
When a solid gets hotter, it turns into a gas. When a gas gets colder, it turns into a solid. When liquid gets hotter, it turns into a gas. When a gas gets colder, it turns into a liquid. The red arrows means increasing temperature and the blue arrows means decreasing temperature.
Phase change is the what happens when one matter transforms into another. The three phases of matter are solid, liquid, and gas. The only way to change the phase of matter is through temperature and pressure.

Podcast Assignment
hillsong.com/conference/championingthecause/
- What is the name of the podcast you listened to? Hillsong Conference- Championing The Cause
- Why did you choose this podcast? I chose this podcast because I was already listening to it. When I got back from Hume Lake Christian Camps for a retreat over the weekend in October and I got really interested in the worship and the way GOd's word is spread through music and I spent hours doing research and listening to new music and just taking it all in. I found this video after looking up a concert I saw one of my friends going to on social media. It turns out this was a world-known conference that only meets in three places in the whole world for three huge life-changing experiences for these people. I watched this amazing video and I thought it would be something I'd like to write about so I used as my "podcast" because the words that are being spoken are the most important in the video anyway.
- What was the podcast about? This podcast was about spreading God's word and changing our perspective. This conference really inspires me, I'm not even totally sure what's it about but I want to be there. I already talked to my mom about going to the 2018 conference in the USA. All of these speakers and artists get together on stage and huge crowds of hundred of thousands of people praise together. It is beautiful.
- What did you learn or gain from this podcast? I learned about how all different approaches and ways to show your religion can be beneficial to me. People from all over the world share their worship in all different ways and it just amazes me. Everything about this just excites me. I have to say that singing in praise has to be my favorite worship because it makes me feel so close to God and I just love it. It makes me feel so good.
- Did listening to this podcast change your perspective on anything? Why or why not? This podcast changed my perspective on limiting myself to certain rules or worship. Sometimes I feel tied down to specific rules that someone tells me or teaches me, but I realized that everyone has their own rules. All of these speakers say totally opposite messages but you just listen to what speaks to you.
- Have you listened to podcasts before? If so, which ones do you suggest? I have listened to many podcasts before. I have experience with a lot of radiohead podcasts and my mom sometimes listens to podcasts in the car. In middle school, we were always assigned to listen and report on certain podcasts and I even made my own podcast in eighth grade. We had a whole project based on podcasts and mine was all about space which is really interesting to talk about because you can talk so much about it and I just get really into it and I can ramble on for hours. It was a very good topic for my podcast, and we even interviewed people that were experts in the certain subjects we were discussing. It was so cool! I talked to a professor from UCSD on the phone and we had an amazing conversation all about space time and how and if time exists in space. It was really great!

This week I was really stressed about math, so I worked a lot on math in class. I think that I am confident now in the math packet and the test coming next week. I am glad that we have the opportunity to have that free open work time so that I can finish up work if need be. For next week, I need to meet with my group and see how we will be moving forward and plan out steps to meet all the requirements on time.
Week 10
Rocks and Minerals
(placeholder)Rocks are everywhere around us. Mountains, canyons, the bottoms of rivers. We skip stones in rivers, climb boulders, try to stack them in precarious ways. We, or at least I, rarely stop to think of what they are made up of, or how they came to be. Rocks are made of minerals. Every rock has at least two types of minerals.
There are many many kinds of minerals. Around 3,000 actually. Minerals are all made from chemicals. There are eight genres of minerals, all of different chemical makeup.
Rock are always being broken down, and the created over again over the course of millions of years. This is called a rock cycle. There three types of rocks; Metamorphic, Igneous, Sedimentary.
Igneous rocks form when magma cools down. Magma is in the earth's core and volcanoes.
Sedimentary rocks form over a long period of time. When a tall mountain or large cliff gets worn down by winds, water, or other causes, the split off pieces are called sedimentary.
And lastly, Metamorphic rocks. These are the least common types of rocks. These kinds of rocks form when igneous or sedimentary rocks are put under a lot of heat or pressure.
One reason rocks change is because of erosion. Say a lot of rain falls. A flood happens and the rivers which have rocks at the bottom, run, which causes mud slides and such. Waves beat against rocks and cliffs, and eventually break them down. This is why you see little pebbles on the shores of beaches. If you have ever stepped into a river, or grabbed a stone from the beach, you will see that it is very smooth. This is because of the water motion beating against the sharp edges and smoothing them out over time.

This week has been pretty short. I was absent on Monday, Tuesday was Halloween so I was pretty distracted, I was only there for half the day on Wednesday, and I came in late on Friday. I don't feel like I've done much but I did edit all of my photos for the project and print photos. I am clearly, by far the most ahead in my group because I have finished all of my pictures for the project besides the Astro one because we haven't gone out on an outing yet. But I could always take an image from the open-source files and photoshop it myself to make it my own. One day this week I just decided to work on my blog because I was tired of being behind. I sat down and got really hard to work. The only things I need left on my blog are the podcast assignment and the rocks and minerals blog post from this week(which I should probably do right now). I also just need to ask about or look back over the solar image writing and the make an element reading thing. I just need to look back at those and everything will be nice. Once I catch up on those, I will be perfect, and they aren't even a big deal. I really need to do two Table Talk Math's from math class that are unfinished.

Honestly, shitty week. It was only a three day-work week and at the beginning of the week I was feeling really accomplished. I had all my photos done! I had spent the whole entire day on Monday editing a beautiful picture of the ORion nebula. I had enlisted many people's help and I was really proud of my work and that was the last photo that I needed for the project. I got the original image specifically from Andrew. He gave me a flash drive and gave me a very explicit okay to use the Orion photo. I made efforts to print my photos both Tuesday and Wednesday and recieved no help from Andrew. This was very unfortunate because I felt ready and I knew exactly what I needed to do and I was prepared all week. Andrew kept saying "we'll just talk about it later" and stuff like that. He never gave me a straight answer and this put me in a very bad position. I was willing and ready to do my work both days and my teacher was literally preventing me from doing it. All I wanted was to print my photos and every single time I asked he would just confuse me and then end up getting distracted and walking away. I spent more time waiting around for Andrew when he said he would meet me in his classroom and would never show up, then actually doing work. This made my week so unproductive when I had drive and was willing to do my work but he wouldn't let me.

Dear Earth,

This photo was taken on a rainy day in Boston, Massachusetts. I planned this trip to Boston, solely to see The Dead in Fenway Park, so you can see how the Grateful Dead and their music not only has a big impact on my life, but how and why this photo was taken.
I was walking around the town square all by myself when huge raindrops started falling from the dark clouds in a town I had never been to, in a city I’ve never visited, in a State I didn’t know much about. This was my first experience in a new place where I was completely alone. I was wondering and wandering all by myself. I could do whatever I wanted and explore wherever I pleased in this little town because I was here to be curious. I wandered the streets until I went into a bakery where I picked out a cupcake and sat down. With my dripping umbrella leaned up against my wooden chair that had been handcrafted by the father of the Russian family who owned this quaint bakery. I was experiencing a foreign city all on my own and I knew this was a coming-of-age moment. Just then, I had realized, this was my new life. There had been many moments in many different places preparing me for these milestones which were signals showing and preparing me for the inevitable. Soon, I would be experiencing this world all on my own and in this moment, I realized I was doing this already. Obviously, I was scared because I knew I wasn’t ready to go out into the world on my own but I looked back on myself in this particular moment, sitting by myself in an unfamiliar place and knew it would be okay. My parents, my upbringing, my school have prepared me for these moments because this will soon be my whole life. I knew then even though the future is scary because I don’t have any idea what’s to come, I’m prepared. I will be able to get through it. This is a moment where I learned my independence, a feeling I didn’t know was there before.
Thank you. Thank you for being our home and for taking care of us. I know you give us everything we need and each and every day you provide. But I want you to know, I am your eyes(if that makes any sense to you). The Grateful Dead said it best, we are “The Eyes of the World”.
We don’t always keep you in mind when we make simple decisions each and everyday. But you are our home, our number one priority, besides, selfishly, ourselves. I think my main goal, my missionary statement if you will, is to put the Earth(you) before myself. And, to help others learn to do that as well.
“Sometimes we ride on your horses, sometimes we walk alone,
Sometimes the songs we hear are just songs of our own”
We are the eyes for the World, we are the world. We speak for the Earth similarly to the way the Lorax speaks for the trees. We, as humans are the only ones who can speak for the world. We’re the only ones standing up for you, but I promise, I’ll do whatever you need me to do, to keep you safe.
Sincerely
Weekly Planner Reflection
Weekly Planner
This goes right along with my last weekly reflection which is very unfortunate and I wish wasn't true. Andrew told me to edit the photo, he handed me the flash drive on purpose, it wasn't a mistake, he very well knew I had every intention of using that photo. And then he tells me I can't use the photo he allowed me to photoshop and literally handed to me. I wish I didn't waste my time editing photos if I knew he would say this bs. I am honestly very frustrated and I am not willing to go the extra mile for this class, why should I have to remake my photo? I was so fed-up with school and the photos and Andrew continuing to let me down and not print my photos, I just didn't come to school for part of this week because I am tired of being let down. I only get frustrated and I am just having so much trouble. Someone spilled tea on my 2000 dollar computer this week in adam's classroom and it really f'ed up my week. Right now, I hate school and I'm having a very very difficult time. I really need some help. School is literally miserable for me and I remember at the end of this week, feeling so happy that I didn't have to come back to the hell hole for whole week because nothing good happens for me and my things get ruined or stolen and it is just really horrible. I really hated school at this time.

(before critique) A question I've faced a lot after taking this shot is, "what is that?" I find this very interesting because it is a small plant that grows on the trees all over our campus. We see them everyday. This correlates to looking at life through a different lens. Not many people see this part of the tree because as humans, we tend to look past little things like this. We also aren't able to see this close up without a microscopic lens. This image shows a lot of depth and meaning with the random trees scattered along our paths to life, and it's sometimes easy to ignore that. We see a tree that is just being..a tree. It isn't telling us, "I'm a tree, I'm a tree I have so many cells and life and I am beautiful. Take a picture of me!" It isn't how humans are these days and that's why I love that I was able to focus on that for a photo. I don't feel like people understand it means so much to me but it's simple things like the tiny plant that is able to spurt out of little cavities on a tree we take for granted that is truly beautiful.

This week I mostly just worked on finishing up my blog. I also finalized my writing piece, and I am now really proud of it. I got a lot of critique for it and it has come a long way I cut out a lot of the unimportant things and slimmed it down a lot. It is refined writing and I even got the opportunity to make my final 12x16 template in photoshop with my writing included. I am excited to print it out next week! I think that Adam still needs to read it over in order for it to be finalized and ready to print my final. I still have a few things to finish up on my blog and touch up my individual writing pieces, but I am feeling pretty confident. I have slowly caught up, I also still need to do those Table Talk Math's that I missed for math, I just keep putting it off, but I will probably do it at home.
Week 14
This semester was pretty mediocre for me. If I'm really being honest, I wasn't putting my best foot forward. I didn't really care about school that much and that kind of showed in my work ethic. Compared to last year, where I would turn everything in immediately and go into depth and take the initiative on everything, and overall, just go the extra mile. I didn't put in any effort to do that this year. I'm not exactly sure why, there isn't really an answer, I just didn't really feel like it. I mean that's probably bad to say, but it's true. Something that started this off at the very beginning was the chat with Chris White when he informed the whole group that our grades from last year don't really matter, we get a "clean slate". This wasn't any sort of good news for me because I got amazing grades, I am proud of those grades and I want them to show and I want to get credit for the work ethic I had last year. I am proud of it. And to hear that it doesn't really matter was a little disheartening, and I figured why am I going the extra mile when no one else has to and we end up at the same place. This mindset put me into a bit of a rut. In my own mind, I just decided that the work I was doing didn't really matter and it didn't matter when I did it. This is exactly what we talked about at my SLC at the very beginning of the semester. And we talked about my dreams and that if I really wanted to do something cool, I just had to take the initiative and we could really make it happen. I just thought it was "too much work" and I wrote it off. The reason that I didn't get something done is because I chose not to do it. I consciously decided that I just didn't want to. I can't blame that on anything else. I guess I preferred to socialize than to do an extra project that I could have really put my heart into. This kind of makes me feel lame but I just don't have the drive to do it. I mean that's sad, but it's true. If I really wanted to put my effort into something that I was really passionate about, I would do it. I would just do it. But unfortunately, it just seems that I don't have the drive, the motivation to do anything. This is clearly an underlying problem, but it clearly effected me this semester. A lot of times I just didn't feel like doing work or going to school and that was fine. That shouldn't be fine for me, I am not a person who operates at that level. I need an environment with structure to succeed that's why I wasn't the most productive. I need that almost strict environment. With the freedom, I tend to take and advantage of it and just do whatever I want. Which, is clearly not a good thing. That's why I am very very afraid to be an adult, and I feel like that is just creeping up on me so quickly, and as time goes by, I just get more anxious and anxious, and just down right scared.
I feel like I can say that I am proud of my final 12x16, the main output of the whole project. I am really proud of it, and my writing piece really came together and I am also impressed and happy with all of the critique that I gave and got. It seriously made my piece all the better. And I can truly say that I am seriously in love with that piece and the writing really does mean a lot to me.
I mean I was never failing or felt stupid, but I never really excelled the way that I should have. Once again, mediocre.
