Our film is about a space princess that gets kicked off of Earth when she is exploring because she is rude. She has an entitled and reckless attitude which gets her into trouble. The humans that despise her sabotaged her rocket ship in an effort to kill her so that she won't bother them anymore. When she attempts to launch her rocket to return back to her own planet, it malfunctions as she is flying away. Her rocket crashes back on Earth but did she die during the crash landing? Or could she have survived the crash? You won't know until Space Princess 2 comes out in 2017. The first film leaves you hanging off of a cliff(metaphorically, of course) and leaves you wanting more, anticipating the second installment of this series. The characters in the film are the Space Princess, the Mayor, and various townspeople included in the shots. We wanted our film to be creative and we wanted to include outer space. We thought we could include aliens as the characters and my partner, Valerie, really got creative with the rest of the story when she was making the storyboard and we loved her ideas! I think that the personal significance of this film are the plushies and the voices. The plushies were Isaiah's toys and the Space Princess was Valerie's cousins' toy. This brought a child-like feel to the film and the voices we were making mirrored voices we made when we played with dolls at a very young age. Andrew had told us that it reminded him of his daughter playing with toys. Using toys to act out a scene is something I learned from a very young age playing with my sisters.
Our launch and recovery was a complete success. I am so happy with the way everything went and grateful that it went so smoothly. The rocket went very high up in the sky. In the launch video, you notice that there is a lot of distance from the ground before the parachute comes out and starts decelerating coming back to the ground. Our parachute came out perfectly and our rocket came back intact. It was still a hard landing but our parachute provided enough decrease in speed to land it safely. I liked this project a lot because we got to use a lot of creativity. We literally did ROCKET SCIENCE! That is crazy! I learned rocket science. That is weird to say especially because I am in ninth grade. This project also gave a lot freedom which caused me to sometimes be bored when I had finished all of my work. But this isn't a bad thing. I would much rather be bored than doing busy work. I liked that we had hands-on work today and then working on our blog was a good way to balance the workload. I actually enjoy working on my blog. It feels like I am traveling or exploring and I'm writing a book or journaling my experiences(Just like Eat, Pray, Love... One of my favorites!!!!!).
If I were to redo this project, I would like to be given all of the tools at the beginning of the project so that I can work at my own pace and make my own schedule. A lot of times I had to wait for a teacher to help or give me the tools needed to complete a part of the rocket. I'd like to rely on myself a little bit more. We are grown students and mature enough to make rockets on our own if we are just given the tools.
I am proud of what I contributed to the rocket, but I do think that I could have been more involved with the group. I made the parachute and made a team-effort with the body tube, fins, and nosecone. I was always willing to help with my group, but I think that they wanted more from me during the project and I can understand that and work on that. I know I need to stay involved with my teammates and not get distracted by other people.
